Gabriel M. de las Salas is an attorney with the law firm of Alvarez & Barbara, LLP. He practices in the areas of general civil and commercial litigation, including real estate disputes, foreclosure, first party insurance claims, and personal injury. He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the Supreme Court of Florida and all local courts within the State of Florida. He is a member of the Florida Bar in good standing.
Mr. de las Salas earned his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Political Science from the University of Florida. While at the University of Florida, he was an active member of the Delta Chi Fraternity and earned the distinction of being placed on the Dean's List during all semesters of attendance. He ultimately graduated with the honor of being a member of The Phi Beta Kappa Society.
He earned his law degree from Stetson University College of Law. While a law student, he was a member of the first place team in Stetson's 2009 C. Steven Yerrid AAJ Civil Trial Competition and was named best advocate in the preliminary round. In November 2009, he helped organize and moderated a discussion panel which brought together the leaders of the The Innocence Project in order to educate fellow law students about the exoneration of the wrongfully convicted. Mr. de las Salas was also the Co-Auction Chair for Stetson's 2009 Equal Justice Works Auction which funds summer stipends awarded to Stetson Law students who work for public interest organizations.
His prior legal experience includes working for Hicks & Kneale, P.A., in Miami, Florida during his undergraduate summers as an intern assisting the firm's insurance defense practice. Thereafter, he provided pro bono service as an intern in the Felonies Division for the Law Offices of the Public Defender for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida.Prior to joining Alvarez & Barbara, LLP, he was a law clerk at Michael P. Maddux, P.A., and gained considerable experience in personal injury and civil rights litigation. He also co-authored two articles with Attorney Michael P. Maddux which were published in The Florida Defender Magazine. These articles sought to educate criminal defense attorneys regarding constitutional causes of action arising from police misconduct.
